Kate here, the founder of Rumi Cosmetiques. The Rumi Blog is something that holds great significance for me. It's a place where I can write my heart out and read your comments, where I can share my thoughts and best beauty practices, knowing you will welcome those with open arms and open hearts.
And guess what? I've got a treasure trove of secrets, beauty industry insider tips, and a delightful surprise waiting for you at the journey's end (spoiler: something new coming soon)!
Our eyebrows, much like our hair, undergo transformations during different phases of our life. Whether natural occurrences or thanks to us. Who remembers those thin plucked-out lines in the '90s?!
With the passage of time, a comparable change occurs naturally. Eyebrows tend to become thinner and develop an irregular, patchy appearance with small areas of sparse or uneven hair, which can make us feel like our brows are in a constant state of disarray. Yeah, I know how that feels!
But why are eyebrows so crucial, you might wonder?
Well, well-groomed eyebrows play a vital role in enhancing your appearance as you age. They provide structure and definition to your face, akin to how a blazer complements your body and makes you look a bit more put together.
Regrettably, many of us went overboard with tweezing in the past, while others contend with sparse, misshapen, or thinning brows due to thyroid or hormonal changes.
It's worth noting that eyebrows naturally transform with age, it's completely normal! Even iconic figures like Brooke Shields, known for her full brows, have adopted more refined and meticulously groomed shapes.
If your brows require attention, long bangs can serve as a clever concealer, my mum had been doing that for years! However, achieving well-groomed brows doesn't necessarily require the expertise of a beauty professional.
Here are some secrets and additional tips to consider:
- Start Fresh:
To rectify over-tweezed or over-waxed brows, you must undergo a rigorous regrowth phase lasting about three months (it was around 6 for me). Refrain from plucking any hairs, even those you don't consider part of your brows, especially around the inner corners.
Additionally, taking a quality multivitamin with biotin and zinc could help (consult with your doctor first), as well as using a particularly nourishing eyebrow serum specially formulated to stimulate hair growth.
I would recommend our BrowCare+ Eyebrow Serum as it's the ONLY product that made my lashes become stronger and eventually grow a bit longer and thicker. It's specifically designed for us mature women so that no one has to worry about irritation, watering eyes, itching, or your eyes changing colour (I mean…what?!).
- Reshape and Fill:
Correcting brows with an irregular shape might involve straightening and extending the brow line and it's where make-up can compensate greatly.
For brows missing their outer half or brows that need some extra something in the middle, use products that adhere to bare skin, such as eyebrow pencils, powders, or anything that works best for you.
What's great is that you can try these products in the store and in some beauty stores they even have a make-up artist that could help you completely free of charge! A great opportunity if you're not sure what works best for you and aren't ready to spend money on for an individual consultation.
Fill the entire brow with hair-like strokes and remember that keeping it light is essential not to create visual heaviness on your brows which can result in adding years to your appearance or simply making you look a bit ridiculous.
Study some YouTube videos or quick make-up artist tutorials on Instagram to learn the techniques yourself or meet up with someone who could help in person whether in stores or by seeking someone for a paid consultation!
- Trim and Tame:
When trimming your brows, always start conservatively, as you can trim a bit more later if needed. Again, I would suggest consulting with someone who does brows for a living rather than attempting to do the magic yourself. If you're confident - that's great, yet when shaky hands and unwavering confidence are involved - I wouldn't trust myself with ANY brows, haha!
What you can do is utilize a clear brow gel to tame unruly hairs, or PowerBrow+ Eyebrow Gel to add color to even the tiniest hairs (which usually are the lightest ones in colour too) while holding them in place.
A good eyebrow gel holds great significance in your beauty routine, especially for women over 40. A well-formulated eyebrow gel can hold those beautifully shaped brows in place, adding an elegant finish to your look. It's like the final brushstroke on a masterpiece.
While we can do a lot with make-up, brow restoration is a gradual process, akin to diet, exercise, and good skincare. With patience and commitment, you'll ultimately achieve the desired results, I'm sure!
In the end, remember, your eyebrows are like the frame of a beautiful painting – they highlight your unique features and add character to your face.
Embrace the journey of perfecting your brows, even when it becomes frustrating at times or you don't know what you're doing. Our brows are said to be sisters, not twins!
Love,
Kate
